Pet photography is one of the hardest things to photograph. Animals can be very unpredictable. I find when I shoot pets it is helpful to have an assistant come and help with the animals. Especially is there is more than one pet involved.

This shoot was so fun I had the pleasure of photographing to adorable bulldogs. They were so much fun to photograph. I always bring some props to a photo shoot for pets. I like to bring a few toys and something that is squeaky and makes some noise. This will get the animals attention and you can quickly snap a photo. I also like to bring some funny outfits for them to wear. I like floral kids headbands work well to put around there neck. I also have no tutus for little kids that I use on the medium to larger dogs. These just add a little something fun to the photos.

We choose a park in Parkersburg, WV for the location of our photo shoot. I felt it was important to get there early before it got to hot for the dogs. The owner was very well prepared also and had water for her fur babies. The park had beautiful grass lots of room for us to find a nice location.

Overall the dogs did great for their photo session. Please View my sample video below and some sample photos. To set up your own pet photo session in Parkersburg, WV Contact Amanda Buckley Imaging at 740-683-6339
I love adding the cutest props for childrens photos. One of my favorite new props to use is a flora bonnet or hat. The have a nice rim of flowers that frame out a child face. I purchase my flora hats from a local distributor or from Etsy.

The floral bonnet adds the cutest touch to your 6 month olds photo session. The floral bonnets I have been using are up cycled. They are made from the arms of old shirts and sweaters. The flowers are then sewn or glued onto the hats. To book your kid photos in parkersburg, WV contact me at 740-683-6339.

In this blog I will discuss the importance of printing your work. Many photographers are faced with the daunting questions of should they sell prints and products or just a digital image on a CD.

When clients can physically see their photos in print it makes a huge impact. How do you feel when handed a CD or a nice print of your family. Even by just doing that the emotion that comes along with having a printed photo in your hand is so much greater than the CD. I like using a nice professional lab that has a wide variety of products and prints to choose from. Local print locations such as grocery and drug stores in WV offer printing services at discounted pricing. Not only is the pricing less, but with that comes less quality.

When you sell clients a CD you are really not fully servicing your clients. That digital image can be then printed from any print lab. Most labs are not calibrated to your exact computer either. This can oppose a huge problem. When photos or items are printed they can look totally different than how you originally photographed them. This could cause a client to be unhappy with your work. Your work could be beautiful, but by printing at a low quality lab your clients may not know this. This could cause you to potentially loose a good amount of business. Many cheaper photo printing places also use a super glossy photo paper. The quality of the photo paper will make a big difference also in the quality and color of you print.

I will present my clients with a few samples of photos and items. This way they can actually see the items in person and see what their photos look like printed at a quality lab. Most people are amazed at the color and quality of the work compared to things they have had printed on their own. It is nice to have a comparison of this is what you can print locally , or you can get this from me. What I hear allot from clients is that they hold onto a CD for years and years and never print from it. Why spend the money for a photos session and cd and never print it to enjoy the memories.

By educating my clients on professional products and prints they can have a better understanding why they should purchase them. Having nice samples and a good comparison will really help when selling products opposed to digitals. I like to do my packages with both digital and prints and products. Many people want digitals for online posting.
We did a quick shoot in the studio in Parkersburg, WV for some last minute first birthday photos. Hadley was looking as cute as she can be. Her mom decided on a super cute mini mouse theme. I had just purchased this awesome vinyl backdrop off the internet. It was the perfect match for our mini themed session. I had a large Styrofoam one we also used.

When children are one year of age it can be super difficult to get a shot. They are on the move so much it is hard. I had a little red rocking chair that matched perfect for her birthday photos. We were able to keep her seated for long enough to get a few photos. We decided that using the studio in parkersburg, wv would be better for photos than an outdoor location. At that age it is very hard to keep children still for long enough to do one photo. To set up your child's first birthday photo session in WV Contact 740-683-6339
There are allot of different materials that you can use in your photography business. There is vinyl, cloth, fleece, paper, poly paper, canvas, and a bunch more. Starring out with my business I often purchased vinyl backdrops.

There are allot of pros with using Vinyl backdrops. The number one thing with a vinyl backdrop is that it is very affordable. I live in Parkersburg, WV this is a small town. We do not have any stores close to here that you can purchase backdrops form. I have to order all of mine off the internet. I have used allot of companies to purchase my backdrops from. I like allot of the companies featured on Etsy. Another great benefit of the vinyl is it is very easy to move around. Most of them are pretty light weight and can be hung easily. Vinyl typically has very bright and nice colors also. The colors look great on the vinyl.

There are for me more cons to Vinyl than pros. It was a good option when I started because it was about all I could afford. Ordering all of my backdrops off the internet can get very expensive for shipping. When vinyl is shipped it is heavier than a cloth or poly paper backdrop so you do generally pay more money in shipping. Vinyl does have a tendency to have a bad blare. Allot of lighter colors in vinyl is ok but darker colors do tend to glare terribly with my studio lights. The lighter colors and backdrops with white are typically ok to use. Stay away from all dark colors in vinyl especially black. If you turn your lighting up at all you will have allot of glare. Vinyl is not always wrinkle free. Sometimes the vinyl will crease very easily. It is not easy to get the wrinkles out of vinyl. Light wrinkles will come out easily with a little bit of heat applied but deeper wrinkles can be very aggravating and take allot of time and effort to get out. Most vinyl needs to be stored rolled also. For larger sized drops this can also become and issue. If you have a 10 ft long drop you need a large space to store that rolled.

Overall, if you need a cheap alternative for a backdrop vinyl is ok. I have found it is worth it to spend more money and get a nicer material like fleece or wrinkle free cloth especially on the larger drops. This will save you storage space and set up time.

www.facebook.com/amandabuckleyimagingAmanda Buckley Imaginghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07463204990048527248noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5983856573463284348.post-8793154397027699092016-06-03T15:17:00.002-07:002016-06-03T15:17:29.618-07:00What to wear to your family photo session. I recently photographed the Davis family and she had the best idea for a red, white, and blue themed session. I love how all of the outfits in this session were similar. They were not alike but all outfits coordinated very well together. The backdrop was a simple dark blue canvas style backdrop. Adding a pattern also can work very well in photos. If there are 4 people in the photo it is a good idea not to dress everyone in a pattern. Be selective and only put one person in a pattern.

When picking colors it is never a good idea to try and put everyone in the same color. I like a variety of colors in the photos. Different colors that go well together work great in a photo. Sometimes when you try and put 4 different light blues together they may photograph differently. So it is better to avoid that all together and just go with coordinating colors.

As a family photographer in Parkersburg, WV I always try to give my clients outfits advice ahead of time. I try to speak with them before a session and make sure their clothing matches with my backdrops. I also will have them text me a photo of their clothing. This way I can try and advise them on the best options to bring and wear for their photos. It is always a good idea to help clients with what to wear. For little children it is also a good idea to not wear a dress. Little children can move around allot and a dress can be very hard to work with in photos for young children. If they do want their child in a dress for photos, I would advise them to wear some type of bloomer or short underneath. This will make photographing little children much easier. Here is a sample of the studio photos we did with the Davis Family.
To start offering mini sessions, it is important start with a wonderful set. I have attached a link for my video on my setup for the Red, white, and Blue mini sessions. I am offering these June 11th and 18th. I started with a simple blue backdrop. I chose a backdrop also that was a medium to dark tone of blue. I purchased a set of paper fans from a local discount store and added those to the backdrop. I hung the fans from the backdrop stand with clear fishing wire. It can still be seen when photographing. The fishing line can easily be cloned out in Photoshop.

I paired the backdrop with a dark wood roll out floor. I like the darker color with the red white and blue. I also spray painted a chair red that I picked up at a local resale store for 8.00 . I had a few other props around that matched a red rocking chair for kids, and a white children chair. I shopped at a local dollar store and picked up a bag full of props. I purchased some fun items that the kids could play with and do fun photos with if they did a good job with their pictures.

These mini session are great for the 4th of July. They really show the patriotic side. Most local dollar stores will have sessional items around the time of holidays. You can pick up props that are themed very cheap. With working with kids they tend to destroy items quickly so I do not like to spend allot of money of them. Check out the video below for a sample of my set up and props. Here are some sample photos of the finished products . www.amandabuckleyimaging.com
What a wonderful way to create a lasting moment between a mother and her children. I often offer these sessions for girls and boys. For these I think it is important to have some type of props to engage the mother and child. For girls I purchased this gorgeous tea sets. It's China but small and children sized. I opted to go for the real deal instead of plastic because it looks so much nicer in a photo. For boys I have a few children's books that are large enough when photographed can be easily seen.

I love the idea also of incorporating something to sit on. I found this gorgeous bench that matches the set well. I did standing , seated on the floor and settee for posing options. If the child has been taller they could have also leaned over the back of the settee.

For the editing I tried to give these more a vintage feel. I wanted them to be light in color and soft. Do I did a soft lense focus of 2.8 to keep them very soft. I even went on photo shop and added more lense blur. I also instructed the mother and daughter to wear coordinating colors for there photo shoot. This will make a huge difference in the final outcome of your session.

I have also recent offered a photo locket to purchase. These have an antique feel and a 2x2 inch photo locker on them. They are around 28. The price is good and product is beautiful.

These photos have been very popular. It's a wonderful chance to capture children and their mother at young age. There are allot of little tricks and tips to do when photographing families. The kids do not always want to look your way or even acknowledge you are there sometimes. This makes for an extremely hard job.

I like to take the time to try and get the kids interested in something else. In these photos we were outdoors so it didn't take much to find something the boys were interested in.

Snapping a few shots while they are just playing and doing whatever they like is great. This makes for wonderful natural photos.

This was a great article with allot of great tips.
A fun photo shoot idea in mommy's wedding gown. I thought it would be fun to do something different and unique for children's photos. I titled this session in mommy's shoes. Have your clients child dress in her mothers wedding gown and all of her accessories. I recreated a mini bride from the wedding day. This is so much fun. I had the mom bring her wedding gown, jewelry, shoes and anything else that she had from her wedding. We were able to incorporate all of these items into the photos shoot this way. Also have the mother bring any photos of herself she may have. It is fun to use the daughter to recreate those same photos. Having allot of accessories was great because it gave us a chance to do a variety of different poses and photos.

We did the child models hair in the studio. We photographed two different looks for her. We did a few photos with her hair down and a few photos with her hair in a cute up do. The mother brought several accessories and we played around with those during the shoot also.

We did a few shots of the daughter wearing the mother shoes which obvious were to big but looked really cute for photos. We did a few with a veil that that the mother wore for her wedding day. The dress was way to big in the top so we took a few safety pins and pinned the top back tight so it wouldn't gap open for photos. The child model also had long hair so it was nice that is covered allot of the top that was to big.

For makeup we thought a little bit more dramatic makeup would be great. We did a heavier eye makeup with eyeliner and mascara to make her eyes pop. For the lips we did a medium pink shade that photographed lovely.

This had to have been one of the most fun shoots we have done. The daughter had so much fun dressing up in her mom wedding gown for photos. I think every little girl loves to dress up and wear a fancy gown and play with makeup. The final images were perfect. www.amandabuckleyimaging.com

Anyone who has ever tried to snap a photo of a young child would know that it is extremely hard. Many children between the age of 1 and 4 are just simply all over the place. They will not sit in one spot for more than 5 seconds. This can make taking photos of children very challenging. One trick that I like to use is to switch up the props frequently. Children have a very limited attention span. So constantly changing props around will help to keep their attention. I also try to have lots of toys on hand this will keep them engaged in looking your way for more than just a few seconds. Suggesting I parents to bring children after they have had a nap,
I would suggest picking the best time of day for your photos. Pick a time of day when your bridge is light perfectly. This way your bridge will stand out in a photo. I like to also shoot in camera settings with a higher appeture number. Higher number will allow you to have a more in focus photo. I prefer having a bridge photo that is more in focus with a background slightly in focus. To much background blurr for a landscape is just not something I prefer. Think of a different viewing perspective. Get up higher than normal or lower than normal this will make for a more visually interesting photo. Posting the same straight on view that every spectator can post on their phone just isn't the best option. The photo below was taken at sunset at point park in Parkersburg, WV. What should I wear for my high school photos session? This is a pressing question on the minds of many high school seniors before their photo shoot. I think it is important to work with your photographer to design and plan background and outfits that will work with each location. Planning several months in advance is key. Do not wait until a day before your photos to decide on your wardrobe. I always have graduating seniors text or Facebook message me their clothing choices.
Proper planning ahead of time will ensure a wonderful photo. www.amandabuckleyimaging.comwww.facebook.com/amandabuckleyimaginAmanda Buckley Imaginghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07463204990048527248noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5983856573463284348.post-72414812623629416522014-02-04T09:28:00.001-08:002014-02-04T09:28:51.677-08:00High School Senior Photos Its that time for Graduating High School Seniors in Parkersburg, WV will be thinking about senior photos. When choosing a photographer its important to find someone who will work with your children. Its very important to find someone who will listen to the needs of the senior. By listening to what the teens want it will bring more business. I always have the seniors fill out a questionnaire. This will help gather information on the interests of the student. From that point I customize a location and props to the questionnaire.

Its not only gathering the information. Putting a plan together that will not only make the client happy but deliver an amazing photo shoot is important. I like to offer both indoor and outdoor photo options. It is a great way to get seniors interested in the process and excited about their photos. Having a good selection of props and backdrops will also ensure a successful shoot. Seniors like to have lots of options.
Today I found myself wondering how I would be able to get a 2 year old client to take good photos. The best photos are not always the posed ones. The natural photos when kids are playing or naturally moving around can be the best. I deal with a large number of newborns and children, so I am always trying to see what will work to get a good photo. Unfortunately, we do not live in a perfect world. Children can be difficult to photograph, especially at the age of 2. They want to move around constantly. Getting a child to sit or stand for more than a second can be extremely difficult. The little girl I had today was just precious. She mainly wanted to sit on my lap and give me hugs lol. Which is cute but doesn't get the parents who are paying there prized photos they are wanting. The challenge was to get her to the photo area. Once she was there I needed her to stay there for at least a minute or two to snap a few photos.

I had a small gumball machine that she found. One tip for working with children put everything up and out of reach and eye sight. If they can see it they will get it. Remember to get on their eye level. I figured we should just use the gumballs to entice her to take some photos since she was showing some interest in them. After getting the parents okay for the gumballs, I placed a few pieces in my hand. I told her that if she did a few photos she could have one piece of gum. She was super excited. She ran over sat in the chair. After quickly grabbing my camera I was able to grab a few really great shots. I made her do one more time then gave her the reward. This went off and on for about the full hour. You never know what will work for a child. Today the gumballs were the key to a successful children's photo shoot. My best advice is to see what the kids are focused on and used that to get the best photos possible. Have a stash of candy or gum close.
I just love to do photos with a special theme. The large number of holidays throughout the year helps to keep a steady amount of work for the studio. For Valentines Day photos this year I thought I would try to do something that would work good for girls or boys . My backdrop is a mix of pink, red, and white hearts. I also tried to get a large number of props for these. I have a small mailbox with valentines day cards. I also have some sparkly hearts that I sprinkled around on the floor. I use the hearts in a few photos then take them out for the remaining few photos. What I have learned is the props with glitter can be very aggrevating. The glitter get all over the kids and is very hard to sweep up in between other sessions. For future sessions I will not be buying any props with glitter.

For seating I purchased a cheap chair at an antique store. I painted it pink and then placed a piece of pink fur over the seat. I also purchased a red rocking chair for the boys. I had another white stool that I used in the older kids.

By having a large number of props the sessions went quick. We could rotate out photography props throughout the 30 minute session. Having a good number of props helped to keep the kids attentions for some wonderful pictures. It also gave the parents a number of different poses to choose from.Amanda Buckley Imaginghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07463204990048527248noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5983856573463284348.post-40831958693474409282014-01-21T18:36:00.000-08:002014-01-21T18:53:39.264-08:00How to make your clients feel comfortable when shooting boudoir photos. With Valentines Day just around the corner. I have been booking an increased number of boudoir photo sessions. I just had a client drive an hour and a half to my studio in Vienna, WV. Women are very eager to do a private photo shoot for their husbands or significant others for the holiday. Many women are afraid to take the initial steps to book the the appointment. I assure all my clients that photos will be kept personal and private. I also go over all of items that they should bring.

It is very important to do a few things to make your client feel completely comfortable before, during, and after their session. I like to start by forming a good relationship with my client before the shoot. A phone conversation and several messages back and forth about the shoot will help easy any anxiety for you and the client. I like to go ahead and set and expectation with the client how the shoot will go. I also give them a timeline of the process and what to expect at their photo session. During the photo shoot I kept telling my client how wonderful they are doing repeatedly throughout the session. This helps to build up confidence and make them feel more at ease. I also keep music playing during the full session.

When we were done I was pleased that the client was so excited to see her pics. She commented that she had a great time and was even talking about booking future sessions. By putting in a little bit of time with her I was able to make her feel comfortable. It's very important to have fun when doing these sessions. It just helps to lighten the mood and calm every ones nerves. After our successful shoot I gained a new client and definitely some future business.
Today I had a great 5 month old photo shoot. I attribute a portion of the success to the mother. If the mother and child are ready and prepared for the shoot it will go smoothly.

To prepare, the mother arrived with three outfits and a few other accessories. I always say bring more than you need. Its better to have a variety of options. The child was very alert and happy for the entire shoot. A photographers dream really. The mother booked the appointment at a time she new would be good for her daughter. It was a time of day that she was normally awake. The daughter had a nap before her photo shoot. The mother also brought her mom with her to help with the baby. Its always a nice idea to bring someone to help if possible. Bringing extra formula and snacks depending on the child's age is also a good idea. . Halfway through the shoot we took a small break to feed the baby. After a few minutes of rest and some food the baby was ready to go again.

Today was a great day. Having a child that is ready to go for a photos shoot will make the shoot more enjoyable for everyone involved. The resulting photo was just fabulous. Childrens and newborn photos would have to be some of my favorite.
Welcome to my blog. Here is a little background information on myself and my company. I am a photographer in the Vienna and Parkersburg, WV area. I have had a love for photography for several years. I recently decided to take my passion to the next level and turn it into my business. Luckily, I have a husband who shares in my same love and passion for photos. We starting taking courses to better our skills and further our understanding of professional photography. The more I learned the more my love for photography grew deeper.

Eventually, I decided it was time to quit my job and start my own company. This was probably one of the best things I have ever done. To be able to make money doing that I truly love is very rewarding. It has not been an easy road. I have spent lots of long days shooting photos, editing, and learning. There have been many nights I stay up late burning the midnight oil editing photos. Many weekends are spent in the studio working.

I specialize in maternity, newborn, children's, and senior photography. My work has been featured in a number of children's magazine such as Child Model, Gladys, La Reve, and Model Magazine. I have also photographed a number of pageant children. Recently, we were just awarded the Chamber of Commerce New Business of Year award.
